In our translation and interpreting business in busy Los Angeles, we get phone calls from customers who don’t speak English fluently. How can you have your conversation instantly interpreted so that you can meet your customers’ needs? Personally, I started learning Spanish for my Spanish speaking clients. But that takes time. So here are what you can do to bring AI interpretation directly onto a traditional landline call.
1. The Mobile “Bridge” Method (Easiest & Free)
Instead of dialing out to a third phone line, use your smartphone as a physical bridge while sitting at your desk:
-
Answer the call on your regular landline phone.
-
Put the landline handset on speakerphone.
-
Open an AI translation app on your smartphone, set it between you and the landline speaker, and activate voice mode:
-
ChatGPT Voice Mode: Tell it, “Act as a two-way English and Spanish live interpreter.”
-
Google Translate: Tap Conversation Mode (set to Auto-Detect English/Spanish).
-
-
How it works: The AI listens to the landline speaker, speaks the translation out loud so the caller hears it, listens to your reply, and translates it back.
