Chinese Language

Chinese language is the mostly widely spoken language. Over one billion people speak some variety of Chinese as their native language. It is mostly spoken in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Chinese consists of varieties which are mutually intelligible to varying degrees. Standard Chinese is the official language of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC, also known as Taiwan), as well as one of four official languages of Singapore. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Standard Chinese (Putonghua) is a standardized form of spoken Chinese based on the Beijing dialect of Mandarin Chinese

Of the other varieties of Chinese, Cantonese is influential in Guangdong Province and Cantonese-speaking overseas communities, and remains as one of the official languages of Hong Kong and of Macau.

Chinese language is written with symbols. These symbols are called Chinese characters. Chinese characters represent the oldest writing system in the world. Chinese language is the oldest known recorded language that was written on old bones and turtle shells. There are over 100,000 Chinese characters. Written Chinese is subdivided into two types: Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
